Online Safety

At Yaxley Infant School, safeguarding our children is our highest priority. We are committed to helping pupils learn how to use technology safely, responsibly and respectfully, both in school and at home.

Online safety is taught throughout the curriculum and forms an important part of our Computing, PSHE and Relationships Education programmes. Children learn age-appropriate skills that help them stay safe when using the internet, apps, games and digital devices.

What Children Learn

Children are taught to:

  • Stay safe when using the internet and digital technology.
  • Keep personal information private.
  • Recognise trusted adults they can talk to if something worries them online.
  • Understand that not everything seen online is true.
  • Be kind and respectful when communicating with others.
  • Use technology responsibly and appropriately.

Filtering and Monitoring

We use appropriate filtering and monitoring systems to help keep children safe when accessing the internet in school. These systems help to prevent access to inappropriate content and alert staff to any potential safeguarding concerns.

Working with Parents and Carers

We recognise that parents and carers play a vital role in keeping children safe online. We regularly share information, guidance and resources to help families support safe technology use at home.

We encourage parents to:

  • Talk regularly with their child about online activities.
  • Set age-appropriate parental controls.
  • Know which games, apps and websites their child is accessing.
  • Ensure devices are used in shared family spaces where possible.
  • Report any concerns to the school.
