Big Cat ebooks

Your child's reading experience is much more than the reading book which comes home from school. Reading is happening all the time in the classroom, in school and at home.

Parents can support this 'reading journey' through regular reading at home. Reading to and with your child every evening for at least five/ten minutes can make a dramatic difference. We know many of you do this and we have been looking at ways to improve reading in school and at home, especially in light of recent events we have spent a lot of time researching online ebooks for the children.

We found that Collins ebooks came highly recommended from our work with the English Hub and the Department for Education. We also have a fair few of these books in school now too, so the children are used to the layout of them.

With Collins ebooks the children log into their own virtual library. We can choose the books that we would like your child to read and load it into their own library, based on the level they are reading. From the software we are also able to monitor who has read which book.

There is also an excellent ‘enrichment’ area for parents to look at which explains what level your child is reading at, as well as how to say the sounds that are in that particular book. It explains the vocabulary we use in school with the children too.

Your child’s teacher has sent your child their own ‘Username’ and ‘Password’ this week via tapestry. Please look out for this.

You can access the ebook site  https://ebooks.collinsopenpage.com/

There is also a ‘Parent Guide’ below to help you should you need it.

There is a Collins eBooks app which is available for both iOS and Android, from the App Store and Google Play. The app is free to download, and you can log in using the same details. When using the app, you can download books to your device, after which you can then access them without needing to be connected to the internet.
